Concept
The art project “Snow of War” visualizes the discrimination against women during war and the deep sense of guilt that is often imposed on them. This project explores the burden of responsibility placed on women during wartime and highlights how their individuality and pain are lost in societal expectations.
The project is implemented in two dimensions: physical space and an interactive virtual environment.
In the physical space
An installation consisting of suspended masks is installed on the street. Each mask is a female face created using 3D printing on fabric. The masks depict emotions – pain, exhaustion, despair. They rotate in the wind, creating the impression that these faces are frozen in space, like fragments of life caught in a snowstorm.
In the virtual space
An interactive website has been developed that allows users to experience part of the art installation remotely. In the virtual environment, the masks “fly” in a stream of snow. The facial recognition system activates the animation: when the camera captures a person’s face, one of the masks “flies” out of the snowdrift and begins to imitate their facial expressions. This creates the effect of deep interconnection – the mask becomes a mirror for emotions, forcing you to think about their true nature and source.
The interactivity of the project emphasizes its main idea: how society imposes its expectations on women, forcing them to wear “masks” of guilt and responsibility that do not belong to them. And at the same time, it encourages each participant in the project to take off their own masks, to look deeper into what is hidden behind the outer layer of snow – as metaphors of social pressure.
The “Snow of War” project seeks to melt indifference and help every woman to be seen, heard and supported.
